This site is dedicated to the memory of Winifred Hooper

There’s a space in my life where my Mum used to be. An empty chair where she sat with me. Two cosy blankets that were hers for years Which now I use to dry my tears. In the garden by the house I’ve planted a rose Where this time last year my Mum always chose To sit in the sun on a lounger chair With her apricot wine held high in the air, Calling, “Cheers, darling!” And I’d look and see My lovely old Mum who was just perfect to me. Smiling as she’d raise the glass to her lips Enjoying her “sinful pleasure” in sips; And she’d stare at the sky, and the birds and the trees For she knew how precious such days were these. And I loved her, and denied what we both knew in our hearts; That the time was soon coming when we must part. Now she is gone, and where she used to be An empty space is all I can see; And her two cosy blankets where I dry my tears And try to hold on to those happy years. Oh Mum! What I’d give to have you there! And pour you a wine as you sit in your chair. And hold your hand and listen to your past And store up your memories forever to last. Instead fall my tears in unstoppable flow And no place seems happy wherever I go. I miss you so much and all I want you to be Is back here at home with Trevor and me. I know one day it will seem okay Though right now I’m battling just to get through today. I SO hope you’re happy; and with Dad and Auntie, And Heaven is all that it’s cracked up to be; For if not, what’s the purpose of losing you so, Watching your last breath as Life you let go? I’d rather you were here, and I was holding your hand Than there, in that far off Eternal Land. But you’ve gone and there’s no getting you back, I know. So on alone with my journey I must reluctantly go. But there’s a space in my life where you used to be. And an empty chair where you sat with me.
